Significant drug seizure at Plaisance airport




A 39-year-old Mauritian male nurse has been arrested on Monday at the Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Airport of Plaisance by customs officers with 4.2 kg of heroin concealed within a false bottom of his suitcase.
 
Upon his return from Malaysia and a brief stopover in Dubai, customs officials could not find anything incriminating during an initial search. But the abnormally high weight of the bag has intrigued all customs officials that the information designated as a potential smuggler. Passed to the scanner, the drug was located.
 
The market value of the drugs is estimated to be 67 million rupees (1.7 million euros). It is about one of the largest drug seizures since the beginning of the year 2015 in Mauritius.
