Seychelles: The traditional dance of Moutia celebrated at Anse Royale on the island of Mahé




Thus, the "Dimans moutya" event organised by the association SEYMAS (Seychelles Music Association) on several occasions in the year in the archipelago, has once again been an opportunity for Seychellois artists to revive the music of their slave ancestors and interpreted rhythms to the sound of drums.

"When we see many of you gathered here once more in this event in honor of the Moutia, we can say that the people of Seychelles believe in their culture and traditional music", said Minister of tourism and Culture of the Seychelles, Alain Saint-Ange, who also recalled his pride of the specific DNA of moutia.
 
Alain Saint-Ange wants to register all events related to the Moutia in the heart of the official calendar of the Seychelles Tourism Office and now wish to devote an annual Festival every first weekend of the month of July. 

As a reminder, the dance of the Moutia usually takes place on the beach, near a fire, and in the light of the moon. Its repetitive rhythm is comparable to the maloya of Reunion as well as the Mauritian and Rodriguan sega.

The happy songs of exile, the hard life on the plantations and the desire for a better life. Tinged with humor, complaints, social satire and love stories intertwine and collide in the heart of Moutia ...
