The Seychelles archipelago and its population of approximately 90,000 inhabitants faced during the dry period extending from June to October a severe shortage of potable water with an insular network supplied at 60% of demand.

To alleviate these difficulties, the African Development Bank has recently allocated a loan to the Seychellois authorities of approximately 25.99 million dollars to enable the financing of a project on the island of Mahé.

The principal reservoir in the archipelago located at Gogue in Anse Etoile district in the north of Mahé will thus see its storage capacity considerably increase of about 60%. And a water treatment center will also be constructed so that the water leaving the tank can be directly consumable.

The start of construction is scheduled for the end of 2016 or in early 2017.
