Seychelles: Seychellois prosecutors trained in the hearing to better prosecute acts of maritime piracy in the region
A legal adviser in the mission of the European Union aimed at the strengthening of regional maritime capabilities in the Horn of Africa and the Western Indian Ocean (EUCAP Nestor) has assisted for a presentation on international mutual assistance in criminal matters to a group of Seychellois Solicitors.

Cooperation between States in the fight against transnational crime was at the center of the work. This cooperation is paramount in the international fight against maritime piracy and other forms of crime at sea.

The presentation was thus conducted by two British prosecutors and Advisor of EUCAP Nestor in a legal formation of nine weeks - closed September 4 - at the hearing and its inner workings to strengthen skills of Seychellois prosecutors to take legal actions to better prosecute alleged perpetrators of maritime piracy in the region.

"The fight against piracy is not limited to the capture of pirates. It is also to pursue them. Therefore two prosecutors detached from the British High Commission, EUCAP Nestor, have provided this training", said the British High Commissioner, Lindsay Skoll.

As a reminder, the EUCAP Nestor mission participates in the strengthening of the capacity of States in the region to control and manage their territorial waters. Sixteen member countries of the Union, as well as Norway, are currently involved in this contribution. The mission's current mandate ends in July 2014.
