Seychelles: Regional naval exercise overseen by the 6th American fleet




A regional military exercise under the code name Cutlass Express 2013, began on Tuesday in the Seychelles, Tanzania and Djibouti.
 
The navies of several countries in East Africa and the international military forces based in Djibouti participate in an exercise designed to fight against maritime piracy, illegal fishing and trafficking that regularly hit the area of the Indian Ocean.

Djibouti, Kenya, Uganda, South Africa, Seychelles, Mauritius, Mozambique, Tanzania, Comoros, Yemen, the Netherlands, Denmark and the United States naval forces prepositioned in Africa island and Eastern naval Force of the European Union are parties to this exercise of maritime safety and security.

After a week of classroom training, a second phase of the operation will be launched at sea alongside the U.S. Navy's 6th Fleet that will oversee the conduct of strategic maneuvers.
 
Weekly practical exercises will be held near four different ports in Mombasa (Kenya), Djibouti, Dar es Salaam (Tanzania), and Port Victoria in Seychelles.
