Reintegration of Madagascar within the African Union

The peace and security of the African Union Council announced yesterday, Monday, January 27, 2014, in a statement the reinstatement of Madagascar in the fora of the Pan-African organisation in the wake of the election of the new democratically elected president Hery Rajaonarimampianina.
 
Following the "restoration of constitutional order," the African Union thus raises the effective suspension of Madagascar from March 2009 and the seizure of power of Andry Rajoelina.
 
The African Union welcomed especially in its release "the positive developments in the situation of Madagascar, in particular the holding, on 25 October and 20 December 2013, with two rounds of the presidential election, as well as the Organisation of legislative elections, coupled with the second round of the presidential election".
 
The African Union also recalls "that the electoral process has been recognised as having been inclusive, credible and legitimate by different observation missions, including the AU and SADC".
 
The Council for peace and security "expresses its appreciation to the people, as well as all political actors and Malagasy institutions, to conduct harmonious and peaceful elections and the completion of the transition process".
 
The African Union also expressly invited the newly elected president, Hery Rajaonarimampianina, as well as all components of the Malagasy political spectrum "to work towards the promotion of national reconciliation, good governance and respect for human rights".
