Mayotte: The neighborhood of minor from the prison of Majicavo overcrowded by 317% of cockroaches
According to a recent report by the International Observation of Prisons (OIP), the prison of Majicavo in Mayotte is victim of chronic overcrowding of cockroaches in prisons of the order of 317%, in the neighborhood of minors.

19 juveniles were therefore detained on 1 January 2013 in three cells while their regulatory number is set to 6.

The OIP also explains in detail the "special measures" taken by the prison administration of Mayotte. To "preserve the safety of minors" endangered by "overcrowding and lack of space" and in order to "improve their living conditions", the administration proceeded to displacement of surplus miners in the area reserved for women.

The two inmates imprisoned at Majicavo are thus "assigned to solitary confinement." The organization that advocates for the right to dignity of prisoners, said that the two women are, however, subject to the normal prison regime.
