Mayotte: The mosque of Tsingoni classified as historical monument
The mosque of Tsingoni in the West of Mayotte is now a part of the national heritage.

Recognized as a historical monument, the first stone mosque built on the island in the 16th century under the shirazian Sultanate, bears today this prestigious title. Frédéric Mitterrand, the former French Minister of Culture had started the procedure for the recognition after a visit in Mayotte, two years ago.

The Tsingoni mosque completed in 1538, is the spiritual symbol of the establishment of the Muslim religion in the l'île aux parfums island. Sultan Issa native of Persia has built the Royal mosque.
