Mayotte: Prefectural Order to prohibit fishing for manta rays
Following the opinion of National Marine Park of Mayotte, the prefect, Jacques Witkowski, issued an order prohibiting fishing for rays manta in the territorial waters of l'île aux parfums.

The increasingly frequent fisheries for manta rays have resulted in this prefectural ban, according to Kwezi TV.

Included since 2011 on the list of protected species of the Bonn Convention, manta rays evolve within the Mahoran waters during their migration between Mozambique and South African coast.

The EU has also supported on March 14, when an amendment to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES - Washington Convention of 1973), for the classification of manta rays in the Annex II of endangered species.
