Mayotte: Majicavo prison in project of expansion

The prison of Majicavo in Mayotte, overcrowded for years with more than 200 inmates in cells while its maximum capacity is set at a hundred places, is currently under construction.
 
 The delivery of works - amounted to € 40 million - enlargement after the destruction and reconstruction of the existing house arrest of Majicavo is scheduled for late 2015, with a fivefold (15,000 m2) surface will accommodate 278 inmates.
 
Two studios with family living unit for prisoners on parole, a library, place of worship, a computer room and a space for socio-cultural activities will also be part of the new building under construction.
 
The two outdoor stroll courtyards will also receive some 75 prisoners separately and will be "vegetated", as shown in the newspaper of Mayotte.
