Mayotte: An oceanographic vessel of Ifremer on exploratory mission in the Mozambique Channel, no oil exploration contemplated on area

The oceanographic ship Ifremer * Atalanta, started last Friday a 30-day mission.

The Atalante left her anchorage of Longoni port to collect "basic data" for research in the heart of the seabed in deep waters of the Mozambique Channel and provide an exhaustive understanding of ecosystems.

The head of the mission in partnership with the Total Group also denied any search for oil in the area passed to sift by scientists of Ifremer, with dives in towed cameras and core drilling carried out in depth.

The oceanographic vessel of 84 meters long welcomes aboard 30 scientists, as reported by the online newspaper Mayotte Hebdo.
