Mauritius sugar harvest: 1.6 million tons of cannes already crushed in factories

While the sugar campaign is in full swing since a few weeks in Mauritius, it is already 1.6 million tons of sugar cane which have already taken the direction of plants to be crushed.

Some 12.164 hectares have thus already been treated by the four plants (Terra, Alteo, Omnicane and Medina) in activity.

Sugar production is currently the 153.674 tons, as reported by Business Magazine.

As a reminder, according to the Chamber of Agriculture forecasts published in May 2014, the sugar harvest is expected to reach this year 415,000 tons of sugar against 404.7 tons by 2013.

The richness of the cane is also higher than the previous two years in the wake of climate conditions for the maturation of the cane.

The sugar campaign of 2012 had collected 409.200 tons, while for 2011 production had revolved around the 435.200 tons.
