Mauritius: reflective vest mandatory for motorcyclists from 1 January 2014

While the slaughter of two-wheelers in Mauritius continues to weigh down the numbers of road safety on the island, the authorities have decided the mandatory introduction of reflective vest, as shown in the newspaper L'Express of Mauritius.

Thus, any moped riders not wearing reflective vest upon nightfall will have to pay, from 1 January 2014, to a fine not exceeding 1,000 rupees (25 euros).

To recall in 2012 on the 156 deaths listed for 2012 on Mauritian roads, there were 67 motorcyclists killed.

In 2013, 30 motorcyclists and four passengers were also killed between January 1 and September 12.
