Mauritius: Very slight increase in the number of inhabitants on the island at the end of June 2014
 
The latest figures published by the Agency of the official statistics of the Mauritius Statistics show that Mauritius accounted for 1.261.208 inhabitants at the end of June 2014.
 
The Mauritian population increased very slightly 0.2% compared to June 2013, as reported in the Le Défi Quotidien newspaper.
 
The Mauritian population is composed as distributed: Mauritius: 1.219.265 inhabitants; Rodrigues: 41.669 inhabitants; Agalega and St. Brandon: 274 inhabitants.
 
The latest report of the Mauritius Statistics also notes that during the first half of 2014, some 6.955 births have been recorded against 6.949 births for the first six months of last year.
 
According to estimations, 13.610 births are planned for the year 2014. 4.660 deaths were also recorded for the first quarter of 2014 in comparison to the 4.562 deaths recorded the year last on the same six-month period.
 
Infant mortality is also on the rise from January to June 2014, with 104 cases while 98 had been identified on the same calendar period in 2013.
 
The number of marriages celebrated from January to June 2014 has increased, with 4.709 unions compared the 4,387 marriages that took place from January to June 2013 and estimated 10,270 marriages should be celebrated in 2014.
