Mauritius: Vast free sterilisation campaign of stray dogs in the northern region of the island




The Mauritian authorities have recently initiated an extensive free sterilisation campaign of stray dogs in the north of Mauritius from the side of Grand Baie and Pointe-aux-Canonniers.
 
This campaign thus has as aim to sterilise around 3,500 dogs, in order to reduce the overpopulation of canine on the island.
 
In addition, dog owners will be refunded 300 rupees (7.5 euros) by the Mauritian government if they sterilise their animals by veterinarians.
 
As a reminder, according to a study last year, between 60,000 and 70,000 stray dogs were counted in Mauritius.
