Mauritius: Threat of strike from planters on the island this Wednesday

Employees of the sugar industry in Mauritius demand a substantial increase in their salary.

If their application is not heard by factory owners grouped within the Mauritius Sugar Producers Association, agricultures have decided to go on strike from Wednesday, November 12, 2014.

In this tense situation between planters and factory owners in Mauritius, the Minister of Labour Shakeel Mohamed recently called on its latter to respect the right of workers to strike in the sugar industry island.

The Minister of Labour expressed regret for the time being "the lack of willingness" of the Mauritius Sugar Producers Association, as stated in the Le Défi Quotidien newspaper.
