812 meters high, the Le Pouce Mountain which overlooks the region of Port-Louis and Moka houses a plant threatened with extinction, the vacoa or Pandanus pseudomontanus.

The species is more and more difficult to find on the slopes of the mountain of Le Pouce.

Pandanus pseudomontanus is one of the rarest species on the 700 varieties of vacoas listed in the world.

The vacoa is dioecious plant, i.e. with different plants with male flowers and female flowers and only two male plants have been observed on the Le Pouce Mountain, as reported by the newspaper L'Express of Mauritius.

As a reminder, 19 varieties of pandanus exist in Mauritius, of which 18 are endemic.
