Mauritius: The trade unions claiming a minimum wage for the workers

The trade unions once the end of the holiday season is over are actively campaigning again after the change in majority ownership government for the introduction in Mauritius for a minimum wage that would be around 15,000 rupees (375 euros).

The Mauritian trade unions thus want to participate in discussions on the topic and make their voices heard by the authorities to ensure that the introduction of a minimum wage can boost the economy including the country.

As a reminder, the private sector Confederation of Workers (CSTP) reported on its side on May 2013 that over 100,000 private sector employees, 80% of women were compensated less than 6,000 rupees a month (146 euros) to Mauritius.
