Mauritius: The symbolic bar of unemployed people reached 50,000 in the first quarter

The number of unemployed people has increased in Mauritius at the end of the first quarter 2015 and now involve 8.7% of the working age population. 5,000 newly unemployed workers have been identified compared to the same calendar period in 2014.

50,300 job seekers are registered on the island. 23,300 young people aged under 25 are listed as well, with an increase of 5.1% observed in the reference period.

The forecasts of the agency Statistics Mauritius nonetheless expect a decline in the unemployment rate at year-end 2015, which should be about 8% against 7.8% last year.
