Mauritius: The price of tomatoes severely impacted by inclement weather in early 2015




The heavy rains that have befallen the island since the beginning of 2015 have brought in their wake an increase in the price per pound (half kilo) of tomatoes.
 
Pomme d’amour (1) now sold in market stalls between 100 rupees and 125 rupees (2). Prices that expected to further increase throughout another month according to local market gardeners.
 
Many farmers have seen their fields thus flooded during inclement weather. Vegetable crops in Mauritius have been hard hit by the repeated rainy episodes that have strongly impacted half of the crops.
