Mauritius: The price of longanis takes off on the shelves of the island of markets

The scarce juicy longanis are being purchased for the time being on the stalls of the Mauritian market at prices ranging between Rs 200 and Rs 300 * pound (half kilo).

A high price is explained according to farmers by many factors. The flowering period of the fruit tree was not particularly in appointment this season and 40% of trees were concerned.

The longanis were severely affected by the lack of rainfall that hit the island several months ago. The price of longanis should nevertheless experience a significant decline in several weeks and become acceptable to consumers Wallet doors.

* One euro roughly equivalent to 39 rupees
