According to some farmers of Mauritius, the increase in the price of a kilo of pepper, which rose from 70 rupees (1) to 140 rupees on the markets of the island, would be the consequence of the fungus Amthracnose as well as the presence of aphids in the fields of the island and which directly affect local production.
 
In addition, Mauritian farmers also put forward the austral winter to explain the decline in production estimated at 80% in places.
 
The price of one "livre" (2) should nevertheless reach between 50 rupees and 60 rupees with the arrival of the first heat by the beginning of October and the beginning of the rainy season, as reported by theLe Défi Quotidien newspaper.
