Mauritius: The number of foreign workers on the island still growing in 2014




The number of foreign workers employed in Mauritius continues to rise with 27 800 workers in the late February 2014 on the island.
 
Workers from Bangladesh topped with 11.731 listed workers followed by Indian workers (8.724), Chinese (2.915), Malagasy (2.248) and French (184), as reported in the Le Défi Quotidien newspaper.
 
As a reminder, Bangladeshi citizens and other Indian, Chinese and Malagasy expatriate are largely employed in the production of clothing in Mauritius.
 
Thus more than 17,000 foreign workers who are registered in the manufacturing sector of Mauritius on the approximately 22,000 employees working in export firms.
