Mauritius: The final straight to recover the new biometric identity card




More than 816,000 Mauritians have already gone to conversion centers to register and retrieve their new biometric identity card, before the deadline of September 15.
 
88% of the Mauritian population is thus concerned, as recently stated by the Director of the monitoring of the project of the Mauritius National Identity Scheme (MNIS), Rao Rama.
 
Some 100,000 Mauritian citizens do not still have on their side taken the steps to conversion have in their possession the new ID card, as reported by the newspaper Le Matinal.
 
On average, some 3,000 daily requests are performed in 13 conversion centers open seven days a week on the island.
 
From September 15, 2014, only the center of the Building Registrar of Port-Louis will be operational during fifteen days to deliver the new official identity document.
 
As a reminder, the new Mauritian biometric identity card is designed polycarbonate and custom data with laser etched graphics.
 
Particular encrypted within the chip in addition to the holder's medical record, vital, ID number, last name, first name, surname at birth, sex, date of birth, photo, fingerprints of the thumb and forefinger, address and a digital certificate.
 
The new official document also incorporates in its electronic chip medical record of its owner.
