Mauritius: The average rate of extraction of sugarcane decreasing




Some 89 955 tons of sugar have been produced currently by four factories of Mauritius, against 113,744 tons recorded over the same calendar period in 2014. The average rate of extraction is declining and is around 8.39% in comparison to 9.56 % of last year.
 
The sugar campaign of this year expected to reach 410,000 tons against 403,603 tons of sugar registered the previous year. The plants are expected grind nearly 4 million tons of cane in 2015.
 
As a reminder, the culture of sugar cane on the island today represents 0.8% of GDP while the figure was 1.3% in 2011.
