Mauritius: The association of farmers in the island prosecute the Mauritian State

Jugdish Goburdhun, the representative of farmers of the Mauritius Planters Association recently filed two complaints in the Supreme Court against the State of Mauritius in the wake of losses accumulated by farmers on the island.

In its complaint, the MPA relates that the registration fees owed to the Sugar Insurance Fund Board (SIFB) represent an "unconstitutional, illegal and unjust" measure, as reported by the L'Express newspaper.
 
 According to the MPA this organisation has more than six billion rupees * in reserve.
 
*One euro roughly equivalent to 40 rupees.
