Mauritius: The Ministry of Culture wishes to see the Mosque of Al-Aqsa registered in the World Heritage of UNESCO




The Aapravasi Ghat and Le Morne Mountain have already been inscribed on the World Heritage by UNESCO for years. The Ministry of Arts and Culture of Mauritius now wishes the Masjid Al-Aqsa Mosque in Port Louis - located in the district of Plaine-Verte - and other places of worship (* Indian temples, Tamil kovils and Chinese pagodas) may also to be recognized as intangible heritage of humanity.
 
For the Mauritian cultural authorities, "these prayer monuments bear within themselves the very soul of the Mauritian population."
 
The Al-Aqsa Mosque is the oldest mosque built on the island. It dates back to from 1805.
