The Mauritian authorities want to encourage farmers of the island to rely more on organic farming, as has recently put forward the Minister of Agro-Industry, Mahen Seeruttun.

The government should also quickly change the legislation to allow the importation and the use of bio-fertilizers in crop fields in Mauritius.

Thus, farmers will be explicitly requested to use smaller quantities of chemical fertilizers and to favor the use of bio-fertilizers for the ultimate establishment of a local market fully organic. In parallel, the use of compost for organic farming sector will also be encouraged.
