The Labour Party (PTr) decided late Wednesday afternoon not to participate in the municipal election fixed 14 June, and this, only after a meeting of its political bureau. A surprise announcement that was made by the leader of the Reds, the former Mauritian Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam.

"We refuse to participate in these elections because we consider that they will neither be free nor fair," said the leader of the Labour Party. The latter also evokes "a deterioration of democracy" in Mauritius when the bank account of the PTr has been blocked in the wake of legal problems of its leader.
