Mauritius: Sugar production should reach 410,000 tons this year




The Chamber of Agriculture of Mauritius just made public its estimates on the sugar marketing 2015 according to it, it is expected be close to 410.000 tons of sugar against 403,603 tons in 2014. Factories are expected to grind nearly 4 million tons of cane in 2015.
 
404.7 tons of sugar have been obtained in 2013. The sugar harvest in 2012 in Mauritius had produced 409 200 tons, while the production of 2011 displayed 435,200 tons of sugar.
 
As a reminder, the cultivation of sugar cane on the island currently represents 0.8% of GDP while the figure was 1.3% in 2011. The agricultural sector in all its components represented 3.1% GDP in 2014.
