Mauritius: Reservoirs well filled in this southern winter period

Recent episodes of substantial rains linked to powerful anticyclones that hit in Mauritius in the recent weeks have largely fueled the hill reservoirs of the island.

These are well filled to about 90% of their storage capacity or more, while the southern winter is traditionally less watered.

The largest reservoir in the country, “Mare aux Vacoas”, reached 93.5% fill rate while “La Nicolière” is filled to 100%. Other reservoirs like “Piton du Milieu” (98.7%), “La Ferme” (85.3 %) and “the Midlands Dam” (93.3%) were also full of rainwater.

Only the hill reservoir “Mare Longue” shows 57.2 % fill rate.
