Mauritius: Over 7,800 redundancies counted in about five years




7,803 employees have been the subject of dismissal between 2010 and late 2014, according to recent figures communicated by the Mauritian Ministry of Labour.
 
The construction sectors, services and manufacturing are primarily affected by redundancy for on economic grounds or particularly externalization of production.
 
As a reminder, Mauritius counted 44,000 unemployed individuals during the fourth quarter 2014, or 7.8% of the working population against 8% for the whole year 2013. 25,200 women and 18,800 men were not employed. 40% of Mauritians under 25 years were pointing to unemployment on the island at the end of last year.
