Mauritius: No hotel will open its doors before 2017




Following the request made for months by the association of hoteliers and restaurateurs of Mauritius (AHRIM), the Ministry of Tourism had decided early in the year any construction hotel projects on the island. Thus, the Mauritian tourism authorities announced that no new hotel will open its doors by 2017.
 
The construction of hotels and the ongoing work will not be prevented as such, but no establishment will be opened for an opening to customers prior to that deadline.
 
It is to be noted that according to the latest figures released by the agency Statistics Mauritius, Mauritius hotel portfolio was composed at the end of March 2015. 114 institutions operating in the heart of the tourism sector of Mauritius. 13,100 rooms are open as well.
