Mauritius: Municipal elections officially postponed for one week

Anticipated municipal elections scheduled for 7 June have been officially postponed for one week. The poll, which will thus take place Sunday, June 14, 2015 in the five cities will be a real test for the Lepep  alliance* in power in Mauritius since December 2014.

The opposition parties, with a Mauritian Militant Movement (MMM) has recently experienced major defections within its ranks and Labor Party (PTr) undergoing reconstruction following the last election debacle attempt to go up the slope at the polls.

As a reminder, the last municipal elections had been held in December 2012. The mandate of elected municipal officials should come to an end by the end of 2018.

* The Lepep alliance brings together the Mouvement Socialiste Militant (MSM), PMSD (Parti Mauricien Social Démocrate) and Mouvement Libérateur (ML)
