Mauritius: More fatal accident in 2014, motorcyclists and pedestrians hit hard




137 people have lost their lives on roads of Mauritius in 2014 against 136 deaths recorded last year. An increase in fatal accidents is also observed. 119 in 2013, 125 fatal accident cast a tragic shadow for many Mauritian families last year.
 
The main cause of fatal accidents in Mauritius is still excessive speed on the part of motorists. 465,052 vehicles had been traveling on the road network in 2014.
 
56 two-wheelers lost their lives. Over 170,000 motorbikes drive on asphalt, sharing the road with motorists. 36 pedestrians also died on the Mauritian roads last year.
 
As a reminder, 2012 was a particularly nightmarish year for road safety in Mauritius, with 156 identified deaths.
