Mauritius: Influenza still makes the Island coughing

From 19 to 24 May 2015, 4,971 cases of influenza or respiratory tract infection have been recorded in public hospitals of Mauritius in the wake of the beginning of the austral winter and a marked cooling of temperatures, as reported the recent figures published by the Ministry of Health.

More than 4,200 cases have been already identified from 4 April to 10 May.

As a reminder, last April the Mauritian authorities have placed orders of flu vaccine for about 9.28 million rupees *.

Particularly virulent during the winter months 2014, with between 5,000 and 6,000 cases reported weekly during the peak of the influenza epidemic, the virus has benefited last year of a dry climate and cold to spread within the population and settle permanently in the country.
