During his press conference held last Saturday, the Prime Minister of Mauritius, Navin Ramgoolam, explained that in the context of the realisation of the LRT, India has offered to financially help Mauritius, by giving a loan of 200 million dollars.

For his part, Paul Bérenger, said that the report on the feasibility of this project indicates that the Mauritian Government would also borrow 400 million dollars to the Exim Bank of the India and also draw nearly 200 million dollars in the State coffers.

Navin Ramgoolam also stressed that the construction of light rail will soon be back on track and that the presence of the Indian Minister of Foreign Affairs Shushma Swaraj in Mauritius had no direct link with the signing of an agreement between the two countries, but that this shift has occurred in fertile ground for discussions between Mauritius and India.
