Mauritius: Eight Mauritian women out of 10 feel they "beaten" by love




While the World Women's Day is celebrated on Sunday, March 8, 2015, the figures for conjugal violence reported annually since 2011 is approximately 2,000 cases characterized of violence within couples in Mauritius.
 
In 90% of cases, it is women who are victims of physical abuse from their husbands.
 
Yet a recent study on the subject challenges and shocks the conscience. Eight Mauritian women out of 10 between the ages of 35 and 50 believe to be "beaten" by love and 79.8% of women in Mauritius are of the opinion that their men have the right to punish them if they committed a fault.
