Mauritius: Creation of an upcoming commission of inquiry on drug trafficking on the island

The new Prime Minister of Mauritius, Sir Anerood Jugnauth, has recently been firm on the speedy establishment of a commission of inquiry relating to drug cases within the country and the role played by the local mafia who holds the strings in this market for years.

The commission of inquiry should thus be established in the coming days.

In 2012, a report by the International Narcotics Control Board, depending on the United Nations put the index Mauritius, as the first drug consuming country in Africa.

As a reminder, the last commission of investigation relating to drug trafficking in Mauritius had been implemented in 1985-1986.
