Mauritius: Construction of a new control tower at Plaisance airport in the near future

The new passenger terminal at Plaisance airport operating since September 2013 and also the development of new parking areas for planes hinder the visibility of the Mauritian air traffic controllers, especially for a clear view of the tarmac and parking areas for aircraft.

For now, air traffic controllers are using cameras to monitor the movement of aircraft on the portion of the runway lying in front of terminal.

Thus, to no longer have to undergo such technical constraints, the Mauritian government wants to build a new control tower. The construction works which will cost 450 million rupees * will start in early next year and will end in March 2017.

* One euro roughly equivalent to 39 rupees
