Mauritius: A museum at Le Morne in the light to study about runaways

The foundation in charge of Le Morne Site located in the southwest of Mauritius is currently considering the creation of a museum on slavery and thus put forward runaways.

It is to be remembered that the mountain of Le Morne Brabant (556 m) was a high place of runaways in Mauritius during the period of slavery, abolished from 1835 on the island.

Listed since July 2008 as a World Heritage of UNESCO, the Site Le Morne drains in its wake a collective memory that the Mauritian government wanted to preserve from oblivion through a foundation created in 2004, the Morne Heritage Trust Fund.
