Mauritius: A growth forecast for 2015 revised downwards

Statistics Mauritius has just revised downward its forecast for the Mauritian economy. While in March the official body was expecting of growth of 4.1% of GDP in 2015, Statistics Mauritius now forecasts economic growth should be close to 3.8% for this year. This would match up to a fifth straight year under the threshold of 4%.

The current difficulties in the construction sector have led financial analysts to reconsider their forecasts.

The construction sector in full economic doldrums is expected to further decrease by 4% in 2015.

While the construction sector was up 5.9% in 2009 and 4.3% in 2010, the following year has been marked by a decrease of its activities of approximately 2% and about 3% in 2012. The year 2013 also registered a decrease of 9.4% and 8.5% last year.
