Mauritius: A distinctive badge allowing more than a thousand street vendors to work freely in Port Louis

The town of Port Louis should vote this week during the next municipal council, a municipal law giving a distinctive badge over a thousand street vendors of the Mauritian capital and allowing them to work freely now.

The president of the Common Front of traders in the island, Raj Appadu, has already protested against this future law by sending a mail to the mayor of Port-Louis, Dorine Chuckowry.

Thus, according to Raj Appadu, this law is not suitable, because with the end of year festive, the police in the streets of Port Louis will not be able to distinguish between authorised street vendors and those working on the pavement illegally, as reported by the Le Matinal newspaper.
