Prime Minister, Navin Ramgoolam, gave 977 new recruits to the police force of Mauritius, including 162 young women and 110 police from Rodrigues, for a promotion ceremony venue on Saturday during a large parade which took place on the grounds of the Gymkhana of Vacoas.

Navin Ramgoolam thus reminded the recruits the meaning of their duty to the Mauritian public service and the full extent of the work of policeman and the integrity of the profession away from any external "interference".

Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam took the opportunity to highlight the Mauritian modernisation of the police force in the wake of interrogation now done via audio and video recordings and the use of scientific evidence to bring the charge of the Ministry public as indicated in the newspaper L'Express of Mauritius.

Navin Ramgoolam has expressly invited his countrymen to respect the uniform and that a law against contempt against representatives of the forces of order is being prepared, as reported in the Le Mauricien newspaper.
