Mauritius: 8,992 long-tailed monkeys exported in 2014 for biomedical research




8.992 long-tailed monkeys had been exported in 2014 for biomedical research to European laboratories such as France, Germany, United Kingdom and Spain as well as towards American labs.
 
This represents according to the official statistics organism of the island, Statistics Mauritius, an increase of 48% compared to figures registered in 2013.
 
 
Mauritius is ranked second of countries exporting monkeys after china. Export of monkey has brought some 720 million rupees* to Mauritius last year.
 
 
* One euro roughly equivalent to 38 rupees
