Mauritius: 5,000 redundancies within SMEs since the beginning of the year

While the government in March had created 15,000 jobs per year in the wake of a new dynamic activity and that should be supported in particular by small and medium enterprises (SMEs), they are in trouble since early 2015.

"Right now, the country's economy is bad ... There is no job security," said Amar Deerpalsingh which still awaits the implementation of concrete measures from the government to revive activity small and medium enterprises.

It is to be remembered that at the end of 2013, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the Mauritian economy counted 255,000 employees. These SMEs contribute to a GDP of 40 %.
