Mauritius: 4 million tons of sugar cane will be crushed for sugar campaign 2014

The Chamber of Agriculture of Mauritius has confirmed its latest forecasts on the sugar marketing for the year 2014 which should be around the 415,000 tons of sugar against 404.7 tons by 2013.

It is thus 4 million tons of canes which will be crushed in the four sugar mills operating on the island with an extraction rate estimated at 10.04%.

In 2013, 3.8 million tons of canes were crushed, as reported by the newspaper L'Express of Mauritius.

As a reminder, the richness of the cane in 2014 would also be higher than the previous two years in the wake of climate conditions for the maturation of the cane.

2012 sugar campaign had collected 409.200 tons, while for 2011 production reached 435.200 tons of sugar.
