Mauritius: 2600 social housing built in 2014

The Ministry of Lands and Housing is preparing to launch a large-scale construction of 2,600 social housing through the National Housing

Development Company (NHDC), swarming in 22 regions of Mauritius, including Chebel, Pointe-aux-Piments, Camp-Ithier, Mare d'Albert, Souillac, Surinam, Pointe-aux-Sables, Goodlands and in Port Louis.

The surface area of these dwellings will be between 40 and 57 square meters.

To be eligible for the social programme of construction, couples with a monthly income between 10,000 (250 euros) and 20,000 rupees (500 euros) must not already be owners of immovable property on the island and deposit a sum equivalent to 10% of the final price of the House.
 
The beginning of the work for the first houses that will be delivered from January 2014 is scheduled in the coming weeks, as indicated in the newspaper Défi Quotidien.
