Mauritius: 1,400 new cases of cancer registered each year




While Wednesday, February 4 was the international day against cancer, the disease records about 1,400 new cases every year in Mauritius. Thus, more than 1,000 Mauritians who annually die from cancer on the island, which is about 12% of all deaths recorded in the country.
 
As a reminder, one in eight women in Mauritius is particularly victim of breast cancer and 400 deaths have been reported in 2010 on the island, and that number continues to grow in recent years.
 
40.3% of cancers affect elderly Mauritians between 40 and 64 years and 42.7% of cancer are reported within the population aged over 65 years.
