Mauritius: 100.000 native and endemic trees planted in the next five years on the island

The Mauritian Ministry of Agro Industry has recently announced its willingness to increase the surface area of natural forests of the island in the coming five years from 2% to 12% in the island territory and including the islands off Mauritius.

In this context, the Mauritian authorities wish to plant 100,000 native and endemic trees.

The first trees will be planted on March 21, a day which coincides with the International Day of Forests. An awareness campaign will soon be conducted to encourage Mauritians to participate also in the reforestation of their island.
